There shall be four classes of members, viz.,
- Patron,
- Founder,
- Life,
- Ordinary and
- Student.
- Ordinary member is one who is engaged in teaching, research, extension or other allied activity and who pays the annual membership fee.
- Any ordinary or Life member who has actively been working, upon notifying any deserving individual who, in the opinion of the executive committee, has made a major contribution to horticulture science in the widest sense may be nominated and elected as an honorary member.An honorary member has all the privileges of an ordinary member except that of eligibility to hold elective office.
- If so desired, an Ordinary Member may request the Secretary to become a Life Member. He/She will be asked to pay the amount as per article 9.2.
- Student members are those who are studying or working full time for Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree in any field of science and pay half the Ordinary Membership fee. A student member has all the privileges of a member except that of eligibility to hold executive office in the management committee.
- The application and annual membership renewal of student members must be certified by their Head of dept. or equivalent.
- Any member who defaults to pay the annual dues for one year shall cease to be a member of the Society at the end of the year. Defaulted members shall forfeit the membership privileges. By Payment of the arrears any defaulted member may apply to the Society for reinstatement. In case the arrears of membership fee are for five years, the executive Council shall decide such cases for readmission. Membership fee shall be paid in advance.
- A member may withdraw from the society by expressing his desire to do so in a letter addressed to the Secretary. The Society, however, shall not be liable to return any fee that may have been paid by the member in advance.
- Founder Members are staff of Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, who formed the above society. They will be considered as life members and shall enjoy all the privileges of life members.
- Life and ordinary members have the right to vote and hold office and shall further be entitled to the issues of the Journal of the Society and any other publications of the society as the Executive Council may determine. They shall also have the privilege of introducing visitors of guests to the ordinary scientific meetings of the society.
- Honorary members shall enjoy all the privileges of ordinary member, without paying the subscription, except that they shall not be eligible for the Journal or for any office.
- Student members shall enjoy all the privileges of Ordinary members, except that they shall not receive the journal.
- The research articles of the members of the Society will be published in the Society's Journal.
